How to grow

Oakleaf lettuce Red Salad Bowl seeds can be sown under protection in a greenhouse etc. from March. Sowing directly outdoors can be done from April. Using seedling modules or small pots, sow two seeds in each module or pot, cover with compost, and keep damp. Once the seedlings are established, thin to leave only the strongest one in each module or pot. Transplant into the growing site when large enough to handle, and space the plants 30cm apart. Alternatively, sow directly into the growing site by sowing the seed thinly into shallow drills that are 30cm apart. Once the seedlings are established, thin them to leave 30cm between each plant. Try to keep the growing site weed free.
