Description
Tête Bouclé Daffodil Bulbs
Tête Bouclé takes the familiar cheerful character of a miniature yellow daffodil and gives it an extraordinary new form. Each flower is packed with layered, curling petals, creating a richly textured golden rosette rather than a conventional trumpet. The paler outer petals and deeper yellow ruffled centre give the blooms depth and make them especially attractive when viewed closely.
This modern double daffodil was developed from the much-loved Tête-à-Tête line, retaining the compact proportions that make dwarf narcissi so useful. Its short, sturdy stems sit neatly above slender green foliage and are less exposed to wind than taller daffodils. It is perfectly suited to patio pots, window boxes, raised beds, rock gardens and the front edge of a spring border.
Why Gardeners Love Tête Bouclé
- Fully double flowers: densely layered petals create a distinctive ruffled rosette.
- Two-tone yellow: warm golden centres stand out against paler outer petals.
- Compact and sturdy: a strong choice for containers and exposed positions.
- Early spring colour: brightens entrances, paths and border fronts as the garden wakes.
- Premium bulb grade: supplied as substantial 10/11cm bulbs for a strong first display.
Creating the Best Display
Plant Tête Bouclé in generous groups so its intricate flowers form a concentrated pool of yellow. Ten bulbs make a pleasing container, while larger quantities can be repeated along a path or woven through the front of a border. Pair it with blue muscari, purple crocus or dark-leaved heuchera to make the yellow flowers stand out.
Planting Tête Bouclé
Plant from September to November in full sun or partial shade. Choose moderately fertile soil that retains some spring moisture but drains freely during winter. Set the bulbs pointed end upwards, approximately 10–15cm deep and 8–10cm apart.
After flowering, deadhead the spent blooms but leave the foliage in place until it has yellowed naturally for at least six weeks. This feeds the bulbs for future seasons. Established clumps can be lifted and divided once the leaves have died back.

Planting & Care
When & Where to Plant
Plant from September to November in full sun or partial shade and moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil. This compact double daffodil is excellent for pots, rockeries and the front of spring borders, where its densely ruffled flowers can be seen closely.
Spacing & Depth
- Plant bulbs pointed end upwards, approximately 10–15cm deep.
- Allow 8–10cm between bulbs.
- For pots, plant in groups while keeping the bulbs clear of the container sides and ensuring good drainage.
Care & After Flowering
Water after planting and during dry spring weather. Remove faded flowers but do not cut or tie the leaves; allow the foliage to yellow and die back naturally so the bulbs can recharge for the following year.
