Planting advice

Plant during September–November with the growing point uppermost where it is visible. Set the bulbs or corms approximately 8cm deep and 5–8cm apart. Choose full sun or light shade in moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Water after planting if the soil is dry, but avoid ground that remains waterlogged.

Aftercare

Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering. Muscari can gradually form generous colonies in suitable soil; divide crowded clumps after the leaves fade if required.

Plant in autumn in full sun or light shade. Use moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Muscari are well suited to containers, edging and naturalised drifts.

Spacing & Depth

  • Plant pointed end upwards at 8cm deep.
  • Allow 5–8cm between bulbs.
  • Plant in groups for a stronger carpet of colour.

Variety-specific Advice

Muscari armeniacum naturalises readily. Use it as edging or in drifts, and remove seedheads after flowering if you want to restrict its spread.

After Flowering

Allow the foliage to die back naturally. Remove seed heads if you want to limit spreading, or leave them if naturalising is the aim. Divide congested clumps while dormant.
