Grow your own delicious sweet potatoes with our high-quality Sweet Potato Plugs, supplied in convenient packs of 6. These young plants are well rooted and ready to grow, with varieties chosen for good performance in Irish climates when grown under protection.

Sweet potatoes thrive in warm conditions, making them ideal for polytunnels, greenhouses, or large containers in a warm, sheltered spot. As the plants grow, they produce vigorous trailing vines and develop tasty sweet potatoes later in the season.

BELLEVUE

Ipomoea batatas "Bellevue" was bred to provide an orange fleshed, copper skinned variety with superior storage root shape, skin smoothness and disease resistance. And on top of that 'Bellevue' is a very attractive variety due to its predominantly purple foliage. Bellevue is not sweet when freshly harvested and when baked the sugar content is slightly less than in other varieties like Beauregard. The roots of Bellevue however have excellent storage qualitites.

These plugs can be potted on into larger containers or planted directly into grow beds inside a greenhouse or polytunnel once temperatures are warm.

Cultivation advice :

• Type of soil is not important, but it needs to be always humid. If soil is too dry in summer, the plant stops tuberisation and the potential yield decreases.
• No fertiliser inside soil or inside the water -> if you use fertiliser, you will have big leaves but not big tubers!
• No fungicide, insecticide needed…
• 30 cm between plants
• Sweet potato like sun, hot degrees, and water.
• Planting from week 22 to harvest end of september

If you respect these points, you will have good yield between 1kg to 1.3kg per plant with sweet potato between 300g to 600g
