How to grow

French Bean Compass can be started indoors from April, or sown direct from May onwards. To start indoors, use seedling modules or small pots, and sow 2 seeds in each module or pot. Once the seedlings are established, thin to leave only the strongest one in each module or pot. Transplant out to the garden when frost risk has passed, giving each plant 30cm of space. Alternatively, sow directly outdoors in May when the risk of frost has passed. Sow 2 seeds every 30cm, and thin to leave the strongest when the seedlings establish. Compass will grow to roughly 40-60cm in height, and it produces a big crop of fine beans. Regular picking keeps it producing more beans. It may require a little staking if it becomes top heavy.
