Pink Duke of York Seed Potatoes
From £6.99
A rare pink-skinned Duke of York type: a First Early with long-oval tubers, light yellow floury flesh and the rich flavour that makes the Duke family so distinctive.
Description
Pink Duke of York is an unusual sport within the Duke of York family, combining the early-cropping habit of the classic variety with attractive pink skin. The long-oval tubers have shallow eyes and light yellow flesh that becomes dry and mealy as the crop matures.
Lifted young it can be boiled as a flavoursome new potato; left longer, it develops the flourier texture needed for baking, roasting and chips. Disease resistance is relatively modest, so this is a heritage/speciality choice for gardeners who value appearance and eating quality rather than a modern resistant variety.

Planting & Growing
Chit seed potatoes in a cool, bright, frost-free place if you want to encourage an earlier start. Plant from March onwards once the soil is workable and the risk of hard frost is reducing.
Plant approximately 10–15cm deep, allowing about 30cm between tubers and around 60cm between rows. Earth up developing shoots to keep tubers covered and maintain an even water supply while tubers are forming.
Variety-specific advice: Chit for an early crop and harvest in stages. Early lifts give smaller new potatoes; later lifts give larger, drier tubers with more general-purpose cooking quality.
Harvest: Begin checking from early summer; lift progressively when the tubers reach the size you want.
