Description
Allium Mix Spring Bulb Collection
A coordinated mix of Purple Sensation and Christophii alliums for contrasting purple globes from late spring into early summer. Premium 12/14cm bulbs for sunny, freely drained borders and pollinator-friendly planting.
The display
Purple Sensation supplies dense, upright globes while Christophii opens into broader, starry spheres. Together they give a layered display with contrasting flower shapes and seedheads that remain decorative after flowering.
Why you’ll love it
- Flower colour: Purple and metallic violet
- Flowering time: Late spring to early summer
- Height: Approximately 50–100cm
- Best for: Borders, architectural planting, cutting and pollinators
- Bulb grade: 12/14cm
- Hardiness: Fully hardy in well-drained soil
Planting advice
Plant during September–November. For the most natural display, loosen the soil thoroughly and distribute the bulbs in informal groups rather than straight rows. Where the collection contains different bulb types, follow the stated depth range and place the larger bulbs deepest, with smaller bulbs or corms nearer the surface. Choose full sun in moderately fertile, freely drained soil. Water after planting if the soil is dry, but avoid ground that remains waterlogged.
Aftercare
Allow the foliage to die back naturally. Allium leaves often begin to fade as the flowers open, so planting among emerging perennials helps disguise them. Leave the seedheads standing for structure or cut them for dried arrangements.

Planting & Care
When & Where to Plant
Plant in autumn in full sun and freely drained soil. Ornamental alliums dislike winter waterlogging and perform particularly well in borders, gravel-style planting and large containers.
Spacing & Depth
- Plant pointed end upwards at About three times the bulb height deep.
- Allow 15–20cm between bulbs.
- Position bulbs among later-emerging perennials, which can disguise fading foliage.
Variety-specific Advice
This collection combines compact, open Christophii globes with taller, denser Purple Sensation heads. Plant the taller bulbs towards the back and distribute both varieties through the same drift.
Care & After Flowering
Water after planting if the soil is dry, but avoid prolonged wetness. Leave foliage until it dies back naturally. Flower heads can be left standing for architectural seedheads or cut for dried arrangements.
Delivery & Bulb Info
Dispatch & Delivery
Flower bulbs are dispatched during the autumn planting season. Where possible, items from the same order will be grouped into one delivery.
Quality & Storage
Your bulbs are carefully sourced, graded and packed by Patch. Plant promptly after arrival. If necessary, keep unopened bulbs briefly in a cool, dry, airy place away from frost, heat and direct sunlight.
What You Will Receive
The pack size selected above refers to the number of bulbs or corms supplied. Bulb grade is measured around the circumference; a larger grade generally contains greater stored energy for the first season.
Safety
Ornamental bulbs and corms are not for eating. Keep them away from children and pets.
