Description

Christophii Allium Bulbs

Premium 12/14 Christophii bulbs. Huge open globes of metallic pinkish-purple to silver-purple stars can reach around 20cm across. Typically flowering in June on stems around 50–60cm tall. Spectacular in sunny borders, gravel-style planting, cut-flower arrangements and dried displays.

The display

Each broad globe is made from scores of metallic, star-shaped flowers, producing an airy firework effect rather than a solid ball. The heads remain sculptural as they dry, extending the display well beyond flowering.

Why you’ll love it

  • Flower colour: Metallic pinkish-purple to silver-purple
  • Flowering time: June
  • Height: Approximately 50–60cm
  • Best for: Architectural displays, gravel planting, cutting and dried seedheads
  • Bulb grade: 12/14cm
  • Hardiness: RHS H5 / hardy in most UK gardens

Planting advice

Plant during September–November with the growing point uppermost where it is visible. Set the bulbs or corms approximately 15cm deep and 20cm apart. Choose full sun in moderately fertile, freely drained soil. Water after planting if the soil is dry, but avoid ground that remains waterlogged.

Aftercare

Allow the foliage to die back naturally. Allium leaves often begin to fade as the flowers open, so planting among emerging perennials helps disguise them. Leave the seedheads standing for structure or cut them for dried arrangements.

What you’ll receive

Healthy planting stock in 12/14cm grade, carefully packed by Patch and ready for autumn planting. Available pack sizes: 10 bulbs, 25 bulbs, 50 bulbs, 100 bulbs.

Please note: Ornamental bulbs and corms are not for eating. The bulbs are supplied dormant; natural marks on the outer skin are normal. Flowering time, height and colour intensity can vary with local weather, soil and growing conditions.

Planting & Care

When & Where to Plant

Plant in autumn in full sun and freely drained soil. Ornamental alliums dislike winter waterlogging and perform particularly well in borders, gravel-style planting and large containers.

Spacing & Depth

  • Plant pointed end upwards at 15cm deep.
  • Allow 20cm between bulbs.
  • Position bulbs among later-emerging perennials, which can disguise fading foliage.

Variety-specific Advice

Christophii produces very large, open starry globes on relatively compact stems. Allow enough room for the flower heads to develop and retain the dried seedheads for structure.

Care & After Flowering

Water after planting if the soil is dry, but avoid prolonged wetness. Leave foliage until it dies back naturally. Flower heads can be left standing for architectural seedheads or cut for dried arrangements.

Delivery & Bulb Info

Dispatch & Delivery

Flower bulbs are dispatched during the autumn planting season. Where possible, items from the same order will be grouped into one delivery.

Quality & Storage

Your bulbs are carefully sourced, graded and packed by Patch. Plant promptly after arrival. If necessary, keep unopened bulbs briefly in a cool, dry, airy place away from frost, heat and direct sunlight.

What You Will Receive

The pack size selected above refers to the number of bulbs or corms supplied. Bulb grade is measured around the circumference; a larger grade generally contains greater stored energy for the first season.

Safety

Ornamental bulbs and corms are not for eating. Keep them away from children and pets.
