Description
May Queen is a heritage British potato bred by E. Sadler and introduced in 1890. It produces medium to large, oval-to-oblong tubers with smooth pastel-yellow to light-brown skin, shallow eyes and pale yellow to ivory flesh.
The flesh is dense, firm and moist, with a waxy, low-starch texture that holds its shape particularly well during cooking. Its flavour is mild, subtly sweet and earthy. That makes May Queen an excellent choice for boiling, steaming, sautéing and potato salads, while the tubers can also be roasted or added to curries and stews.

Planting & Growing
Chit seed potatoes in a cool, bright, frost-free place if you want to encourage an earlier start. Plant from March onwards once the soil is workable and the risk of hard frost is reducing.
Plant approximately 10–15cm deep, allowing about 30cm between tubers and around 60cm between rows. Earth up developing shoots to keep tubers covered and maintain an even water supply while tubers are forming.
Variety-specific advice: May Queen is an early variety, so chit well and plant once conditions are suitable. Begin lifting gently as soon as the tubers reach a useful size for the best new-potato character.
Harvest: Begin checking from early summer and lift progressively when the tubers reach the size you want.

Our seed potatoes are selected for planting and supplied in practical pack sizes for gardeners, allotments and larger plots. They may be delivered dormant or with early signs of sprouting depending on the time of season.
On arrival, unpack the potatoes and keep them in a cool, bright, frost-free place with good airflow until planting. Please do not store them in sealed plastic.
Seed potatoes are a seasonal living product. Natural variation in tuber size and appearance is normal and does not affect their suitability for planting.
