Duke of York Seed Potatoes
From £6.99
A classic First Early heritage potato with pale yellow, oval tubers and a rich traditional flavour. Lift young for excellent new potatoes, or leave them to mature for a drier, flourier texture and versatile kitchen use.
Description
Duke of York is a classic First Early potato, valued since 1891 for its rich flavour and reliable early harvest. Its compact, low-growing plants are particularly useful in exposed or windy gardens.
Lift the pale yellow, oval tubers young for tasty new potatoes with a firm texture. As they mature, the yellow flesh becomes drier and more floury, making Duke of York a versatile choice for boiling, baking, roasting and sautéing.
Why grow Duke of York?

Planting & Growing
Chit seed potatoes in a cool, bright, frost-free place if you want to encourage an earlier start. Plant from March onwards once the soil is workable and the risk of hard frost is reducing.
Plant approximately 10–15cm deep, allowing about 30cm between tubers and around 60cm between rows. Earth up developing shoots to keep tubers covered and maintain an even water supply while tubers are forming.
Variety-specific advice: For the finest new-potato texture, lift as required and cook soon after harvesting. Leave the remaining tubers in the ground a little longer if you prefer a fuller flavour and flourier finish.
Harvest: Begin checking from early summer; lift progressively when the tubers reach the size you want.
