Nicola Seed Potatoes
From £6.99
A prolific Second Early salad potato with smooth thin skin, firm waxy flesh and very good flavour hot or cold; also useful for bags and late planting.
Description
Nicola is one of the most dependable salad potatoes for home growers. Smooth oval tubers have pale skin and firm creamy flesh that holds together during cooking, making them excellent boiled, steamed, sautéed or cooled for salads.
It produces a generous number of tubers per plant and stores better than many salad types. RHS also notes that Nicola is easy to grow in pots, bags or borders and has resistance to potato leafroll virus and some potato cyst nematodes. Cold-stored seed is also well suited to late-summer planting for an autumn or festive crop.

Planting & Growing
Chit seed potatoes in a cool, bright, frost-free place if you want to encourage an earlier start. Plant from March into April once soil conditions are suitable.
Plant approximately 10–15cm deep, allowing about 30cm between tubers and around 60cm between rows. Earth up developing shoots to keep tubers covered and maintain an even water supply while tubers are forming.
Variety-specific advice: Harvest from early summer when tubers reach the size you prefer. For salad use, avoid letting every plant run on to oversized tubers.
Harvest: Begin checking from early to mid-summer, depending on planting date and conditions.
