Vitabella Seed Potatoes

From £6.99

Conventional Vitabella seed: the same early, firm-cooking, blight-resistant genetics as our organic line, with excellent flavour, yellow flesh and very good storage.

Description

Vitabella combines the eating quality of a firm yellow table potato with unusually strong agronomic resilience. Plantera describes it as an oval cooking type A variety with excellent taste, attractive yellow flesh and very good storability.

Foliage and tuber late-blight resistance are both strong, and dry matter is around 20%, so it can also make useful home fries despite its waxy texture. This listing is conventional seed rather than certified organic; choose the organic Vitabella listing if organic seed certification is important to you.

Planting & Growing

Chit seed potatoes in a cool, bright, frost-free place if you want to encourage an earlier start. Plant from March into April once soil conditions are suitable.

Plant approximately 10–15cm deep, allowing about 30cm between tubers and around 60cm between rows. Earth up developing shoots to keep tubers covered and maintain an even water supply while tubers are forming.

Variety-specific advice: Do not rush planting into cold soil. Plantera recommends good soil structure and nutrition, careful harvesting and prompt drying with ventilation for storage.

Harvest: Begin checking from early to mid-summer, depending on planting date and conditions.
