Organic Carolus Seed Potatoes
From £7.99
Certified organic Carolus: an early-maincrop, high-dry-matter potato with attractive red eye markings, floury yellow flesh and very strong late-blight resilience in foliage and tubers.
Description
Carolus is one of the strongest modern organic garden choices in the range. The oval tubers have yellow skin with distinctive red eyes and yellow flesh, while dry matter is high enough to give a floury cooking type suited to mash, roasting and baking.
Agrico BioSelect identifies Carolus as an early maincrop Next Generation variety with strong resilience to late blight in both foliage and tubers. That combination of eating quality and disease resilience is the reason it performs well in organic and lower-input systems. It is a multipurpose variety rather than a firm salad potato.
Why grow Carolus?
- Maturity: Early Maincrop
- Cooking type: Floury
- Texture: Dry, floury and high dry matter
- Best for: Baking, Chipping, Mashing, Roasting
- Skin: Yellow with red eyes
- Flesh: Yellow
- Tuber shape: Oval
Growing note: Plant once soils have warmed and keep nutrition and moisture reasonably even. Strong disease resilience reduces risk but does not remove the need for crop rotation and normal blight awareness.

Planting & Growing
Chit seed potatoes in a cool, bright, frost-free place if you want to encourage an earlier start. Plant from late March into April once the soil is workable and conditions are suitable.
Plant approximately 10–15cm deep, allowing about 35–40cm between tubers and around 75cm between rows. Earth up developing shoots to keep tubers covered and maintain an even water supply while tubers are forming.
Variety-specific advice: Plant once soils have warmed and keep nutrition and moisture reasonably even. Strong disease resilience reduces risk but does not remove the need for crop rotation and normal blight awareness.
Harvest: Allow a longer season and check tuber development from late summer into autumn.
