Description

Sarpo Mira is a vigorous Maincrop potato renowned for its exceptional resistance to late blight. It is especially valuable for organic, allotment and low-input growing, producing tall, dense foliage that competes strongly with weeds.

The large red- to pink-skinned tubers have pale, high-dry-matter flesh and a distinctly floury texture. They are best suited to baking, roasting, mashing and chips. Sarpo Mira can produce very heavy yields and stores well, but the crop should be checked regularly so the tubers do not become excessively large.

Planting & Growing

Chit seed potatoes in a cool, bright, frost-free place if you want to encourage an earlier start. Plant from late March into April once the soil is workable and conditions are suitable.

Plant approximately 10–15cm deep, allowing about 35–40cm between tubers and around 75cm between rows. Earth up developing shoots to keep tubers covered and maintain an even water supply while tubers are forming.

Variety-specific advice: Check tuber size from late summer onwards and lift when they reach the size you want. Mira can keep growing strongly until frost, so leaving it indefinitely can result in oversized or hollow-hearted tubers.

Harvest: Allow a longer season and check tuber development from late summer into autumn.
