Snowball Onion Sets
Snowball is a distinctive white onion producing attractive round bulbs with white skins and flesh. Its mild flavour makes it especially useful for salads, sandwiches and lighter dishes, while the bulbs can also be roasted or baked whole. Properly cured crops have good storage potential.

Planting Advice
When & Where to Plant
Plant from September to November so the sets can establish before winter. Choose full sun and fertile, well-drained soil.
Spacing & Depth
- Plant sets 10–15cm apart, with 20–30cm between rows.
- Leave the pointed tip just showing above the soil.
- Check newly planted sets regularly or protect temporarily from birds until rooted.
Winter Drainage
Overwintering onions dislike sitting in waterlogged soil. On heavy or wet ground, use raised beds, containers or modules and plant out when conditions improve.
Harvest & Storage
Autumn-planted onions generally mature earlier than spring-planted crops. Lift when the foliage yellows and topples, then cure thoroughly before use or storage.
