Description

Charlotte is one of the UK's best-loved salad potatoes. This RHS Award of Garden Merit variety produces good yields of smooth, uniform tubers with yellow skin, creamy-yellow flesh and a firm, waxy texture.

Charlotte holds its shape well during cooking and has a full flavour whether served hot or cold. It is especially good for boiling, steaming, sautéing and salads. It can also be planted in summer using specially cold-stored seed for a festive-season crop.

Planting & Growing

Chit seed potatoes in a cool, bright, frost-free place if you want to encourage an earlier start. Plant from March into April once soil conditions are suitable.

Plant approximately 10–15cm deep, allowing about 30cm between tubers and around 60cm between rows. Earth up developing shoots to keep tubers covered and maintain an even water supply while tubers are forming.

Variety-specific advice: For a classic salad-potato finish, lift while the tubers are still relatively small and cook them with their skins on. Their firm flesh stays intact and absorbs dressings particularly well.

Harvest: Begin checking from early to mid-summer, depending on planting date and conditions.
